6 Colombian Soldiers killed, 8 injured in Ambush

Local Colombian Authorities reported on Wednesday that a unit of 30 soldiers conducting anti-drug patrols had been ambushed in the Caquetá area of Meta, Colombia.

According to authorities, the incident that took place approx.1:30am on the 17th was carried out by FARC dissidents. It has also been reported that 8 other soldiers within the military unit received serious, some life-threatening injuries.

Since the 2016 Peace Agreement, various factions and splinter groups of the former FARC have stepped up attacks in order to destabilise peace agreement efforts and fund their operations through drug trafficking, illegal mining and other criminal activities. Authorities say there are around 2,300 such dissidents, while an estimated 13,000 rebels disarmed as part of the peace accord.
